1st presentation - Eticeo Sante

  • Lilian Hugues co-founder of Eticeo. Multimedia educational engineer. Worked for more than 8 years on tweaking Mahara to improve the UX / UI.

Tweaking Mahara !
The presentation will explain how Eticeo has created a professional social network based on a multi-institution mahara platform. Each institution has its own customisation either graphical and functional.

Eticeo Team has been working hard for 8 year to tweak Mahara for each new institution on the social network. A new institution on the network means, new tools, new ways of using Mahara, new plugins… New user experiences, new user interfaces. The presentation will show 3 examples of the concept.

2nd presentation - Hadlow College

  • Louise Carr, Advanced Learning Practitioner and Programme Lead for Vocational Teacher Training.  Working with curriculum teams to support and develop eportfolios in Land-based education, and teacher training.

An editable, collaborative tool was needed that could quickly respond to supporting curriculum staff with our sudden shift to online and distance teaching.  We chose to use Mahara and on paper this seemed like a sound idea however, it was to prove otherwise.  Was this the right tool at the wrong time or were there other issues?  This presentation looks at the highs and lows of this mini-project: the lessons learned and implications for the future.

3rd presentation - University of Glasgow, College of Arts

  • Gordon McLeod  eLearning & Innovation Officer. Over 10 years experience of finding new ways to enhance learning & teaching with Moodle & Mahara as an admin, user and evangelist. Chair of MacHara (Scottish Mahara User Group).

Deep integration between Moodle & Mahara enables staff and students to maximise the strengths of both platforms. In this session I will showcase how VLE use at Glasgow University Vet School (a role I just left) moved from lecture dump and scroll of death file repository to a media rich blended learning experience, with Mahara deeply embedded in day-to-day learning and self-study as well as for portfolio evidence.

4th presentation - University of Warwick

  • Teresa MacKinnon. Associate Professor, School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Certified Member of Association for Learning Technology, @warwicklanguage.

Using Mahara to share your skills with others.
  • One of the important challenges which has been brought home by our Covid19 experience is that it takes time and thought to manage your professional online presence in an effective way. I will be sharing some of the activities developed during virtual exchange where Mahara has been used to support understanding of online visibility, presence, collaborative working and community development through curation of collections, use of open badges. The examples come from students and practitioners in Higher Education both in the UK and beyond. I will also consider how we could further support those who engage in e-portfolio use.
